Z is for Zoo!

We completed our alphabet today with some fun, hands-on "Z is for Zoo" activities! Keep scrolling to see what we did, or click on one of the links below to revisit similar themes from the past.

Books
We borrowed a couple zoo books from the library this week!

Introducing the Letter
We completed our usual letter page by writing, stamping, poking and filling Z's with stickers!

Beginning Sounds
I found this perfect FREE printable from Teachers Pay Teachers. Since Sweet E can recognize all of her uppercase letters, we've been working on their sounds. So I set up this little activity for her.

She loved this, and got all ten of them right!!

Opposites - Paper Plate Puzzles
I created some puzzles using clipart from the internet. So simple to do! And while I was concerned she'd just match up the animals, the concept of opposites really clicked for her while we worked on these!

What is the opposite of wet? Dry!

What's the opposite of open? Closed!

Also included were tall/short, high/low, inside/outside, big/small, and awake/asleep. Not only did she understand all of these; but during lunch I asked her some more, and she answered correctly. Day/Night, up/down, dark/light, etc.

Sorting
Just a quick activity to sort pets from zoo animals, using our Melissa and Doug magnets!

Feed the Animals - Math and Sensory
I found this FREE printable and idea in a preschool group on Facebook. I just thought it was too cute! I used our assortment of dried beans, and attached the faces to toilet paper tubes so they looked like they had open mouths. Then Sweet E had to read the card, and feed that animal the number of scoops showing.

She of course spoke to the animals, and requested that I make them talk back. Pretend play all day!

She had no trouble recognizing and counting out the numbers.

And after going through the cards, she dug her hands into the beans, because it's so fun!

Stencil Painting
I pulled out our animal stencils for today's craft. First Sweet E painted within the lines.

Then we decided to try her dot markers too!

They came out pretty good with both methods!

And that concludes our alphabet! 😃 What a fun year it's been!
