W is for Watermelon!

Today we did some watermelon activities! Keep scrolling to see what we did, or click one of the links below to revisit similar themes from the past.

Watermelon - 2013

Book
We actually brought this book home weeks ago, and have read it over and over while waiting for our W theme to come along. Sweet E loves it!

W Page
We love these FREE pages from Teachers Pay Teachers. And for fun, Sweet E used watermelon colors!

Watermelon Life Cycle
Another FREE printable from Teachers Pay Teachers. We talked about how a watermelon grows!

And this was great cutting practice for Sweet E.

Watermelon Seed Counting
We pulled out our Thanksgiving playdoh mat (there's a turkey with no feathers on the back too) and made a watermelon without seeds.

Then I wrote a number in the cup place. Sweet E had to say what number it was, and count that many seeds to put in the watermelon!

We did this several times, with numbers up to 20.

Fingerprint Seed Watermelon
For another letter recognition activity, I cut out this W and invited Sweet E to add seeds using paint and her finger.

Super cute!

Water Beads - Sensory Bin
For our final activity of the day, I had hydrated a couple spoonfuls of (mostly) pink water beads. Then I threw in some black gems, and provided Sweet E with some fun things to use with them. A coffee can and strainer, a scooper, an ice cube tray to sort out the seeds, and some bowls and spoons. Later on we also added a second tin, and a dropper.

She enjoyed making us some watermelon soup!

Yum!

She poured the water, and the water beads, from one can to another.

Extracted some water with her dropper.

And poured it back into the bucket!

We got some counting practice in, with all the seeds she took out of our watermelon soup.

Such a fun sensation!

The play went on for a while. For both of us! 😆

Three letters to go!
