We're back to our alphabet activities for a couple weeks before the busy holiday season begins! Take a look back at Honey Pot and Little M&M's letter E units, or keep scrolling to see what Sweet E and I did this week:
Books
We found a couple cute elephant books at the library this week, and combined them with three from our own collection. Always love Horton, but it was a little too advanced for Sweet E. Her favorites were A Parade of Elephants and Little Elephant Listens, both very toddler friendly!
Magnetic Pom Poms
For a little fine motor activity, I put together some magnetic pom poms for Sweet E. They were always a huge hit for her brother and sister! The cute elephant printable comes from here, and I just placed it on a Dollar Tree tray for her.
She filled the whole thing up!
Elephant Puzzle
Sweet E is in love with the Winnie the Pooh character Lumpy right now. So I printed out a coloring page of him, and cut it into six pieces for her to reassemble. She has mastered two-piece jigsaw puzzles, so this was a good next challenge for her!
And since one piece had no images on it, I decided to draw a heart. It turned out to be a good starting point for Sweet E!
Elephant Blocks - Stacking + Counting
We received this game as a gift when Honey Pot was two! I decided it would be a great thing to pull out for Sweet E for this week.
First she just stacked them up!
Which was really fun!
She found a way to get all ten stacked! 😂
Each elephant block is numbered, so next we lined them up from 1-10.
And then she counted them up while pointing to each one. This was a great number recognition activity!
And finally, we played a variation of the actual game. She rolled a die (a die from another game that just contains the numbers 1-3) and had to stack that many elephant blocks. At first we kept rolling ones!
Then she rolled a three. So here she is counting up the dots:
And we kept going several times until we could stack all ten without them falling down!
Elephant Sponge-Painting
Next we did a cute craft from Crafty Morning using a paper plate. I cut out the shape, then gave her some paint and a sponge.
This was a new and fun way to paint!
Once it had dried, she glued on the eyes and trunk!
So cute!
Alphabet Review
Finally, we did a tape activity to review the letters we had learned so far. This was actually more fun than I thought it would be! First I taped up a piece of paper with the letters A-E on it, and then I placed a few snippets of tape with the same letters onto the wall.
As she picked up each piece of tape, we talked about the letter it is, as well as some words that begin with that letter. "That's the letter D, D is for Dad, Dog, Dinosaur..." for example. She is really starting to catch on to some of these letters, especially the one that her name begins with. 😊
She went through each piece of tape with much enthusiasm...
Until the whole thing was finished!
Then we went over to play with playdoh, not in our elephant theme, but just because she loves it. And before I knew it she was back at the letter activity, peeling up the tape so she could start all over again!
Love this one!
